Muhammad's Lies About Medicine, Germs, and Diseases

This article chronicles the various false statements Muhammad made about diseases, treating those diseases, and the precautions one should take against situations that could result in illness.

Dipping Flies in Drinks

Muhammad taught that one wing of a fly contains the cure for whatever disease it may carry, therefore, if one partially lands in your drink, you should submerge it, in order to ensure you get the cure:

Sahih al-Bukhari 3320

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said "If a house fly falls in the drink of anyone of you, he should dip it (in the drink) and take it out, for one of its wings has a disease and the other has the cure for the disease."

This is also narrated inSahih al-Bukhari 3320 Sahih al-Bukhari 5782, Sunan ibn-Majah 3505, and Sunan abu-Dawud 3844.

Obviously, this is verifiably false. Flies are some of the filthiest creatures on the planet, and so this is terrible advice. Flies carry millions of bacteria, which cause diseases such as Cholera, Anthrax, Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Typhoid fever, and other diseases which will cause dysentery.

If both wings of such flies are analyzed, one of them will not have a cure to these diseases, in distinction from the other one, which has the disease, and not the cure. The insane, pseudoscientific Muslim attempts to vindicate this Hadith on the basis of science never test the actual claim. One wing should have the disease, and the other should have the cure. This means that dipping both wings of a fly entirely into water should always be sterile, because any disease-causing bacteria should be entirely neutralized, so long as both wings have been submerged, and also, one wing - the cure wing - should always be sterile, regardless. Does any Muslim believe that two fly wings, dipped into water, will be sterile? Do they believe that one wing is invariably sterile? Do they ever test those things? Of course not. Any high-schooler with a fly, and some agar in a petri dish, can verify this as 100%, indisputably false. It's a laughable, joke of a claim.

However, what about the diseases on the fly's legs, and body? Often, flies crawl on excrement, and decaying organic matter, and so the majority of the bacteria can be found on its legs. The Hadith only seems concerned about the wings, yet instructs us to submerge the entire body. This is like pouring gasoline on a fire to extinguish it. Not only are the wings not sterile, but adding the entire body of the fly has now created an even more dangerous situation.

Therefore, the Hadith of the fly demonstrates that Muhammad was a liar, and a false prophet. He told us to obey him as if he were God (Surah 4:80, Sahih al-Bukhari 2956, 2957), and never dispute with any of his judgments (Surah 4:65, 33:36, 49:1). He told us to love him more than any other human, or we can't even have faith in God (Sahih al-Bukhari 14-15, Sahih Muslim 44a-b). Yet, he told people this brazen, dangerous lie about diseases, which has put people in danger for 14 centuries.

Water Sanitation

Muhammad, when asked whether it was safe to use water from a well contaminated with animal carcasses, blood, and excrement, said that "water is not defiled by anything":

Sunan abu-Dawud 67

Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri:
I heard that the people asked the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him): Water is brought for you from the well of Buda'ah. It is a well in which dead dogs, menstrual cloths and excrement of people are thrown. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: Verily water is pure and is not defiled by anything.

Since the above well was being used as a refuse, it would be dangerous to even touch the water - you could have small cuts on your hands that you don't even know about - let alone wash with it or drink it.

He apparently made statements like this on multiple occasions, as the following narrations demonstrate:

Sunan ibn-Majah 520

It was narrated that Jabir bin Abdullah said:
"We came to a pond in which there was the carcass of a donkey, so we refrained from using the water until the Messenger of Allah came to us and said: 'Water is not made impure by anything.' Then we drank from it and gave it to our animals to drink, and we carried some with us."

Sunan ibn-Majah 521

It was narrated that Abu Umamah Al-Bahili said:
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Water is not made impure by anything except that which changes its smell, taste and color.'"

Water is not made impure unless its color, taste, and smell is changed? That's false. Waterborne diseases are all microscopic. You can drink crystal-clear water that has Cholera, E. Coli, or some other dysentery-causing microbe, which will kill you. Other waterborne diseases like Hepatitis A, Salmonella, Typhoid fever, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium are all microscopic.

Therefore, even in the instances in which he gave this qualifier, he was wrong. However, sometimes he didn't even give this qualifier, instead only saying "water is not made impure by anything", which is even more reckless, and equally untrue.

Muslims completely ignore this teaching, as in every Muslim nation they have water treatment facilities that do far more to the water than filter it of anything that looks, tastes, and smells bad. They treat it with industrial chemicals, just like the Kuffar in the West, in spite of their false prophet's teachings.

Diseases Are Not Contagious

Muhammad, at least on occasion, taught that "one thing does not infect another":

Jami at-Tirmidhi 2143

Ibn Mas'ud narrated:
The Messenger of Allah stood among us and said: "One thing does not infect another." So a Bedouin said: "O Messenger of Allah! What about if a camel gets mangy glands and we leave it at the resting place of camels, then all of the camels get mange?" The Messenger of Allah said: "Who caused the first to get mange? There is no infection, nor evil omen in the month of Safar. Allah created every soul, so he wrote its life, its provision, and its afflictions."

This is also narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari 5717, 5753, 5756-57, 5770, 5772, 5776, Sunan ibn-Majah 86, 3537, 3539-40, and Jami at-Tirmidhi 1615, 2143.

However, because Muslims know that this is an extremely dangerous false teaching, they not only often refuse to translate the Hadith, they also often add commentary in parenthesis, and a footnote, in order to attempt to explain away what Muhammad said:

Sahih al-Bukhari 5707

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "(There is) no 'Adwa (no contagious disease is conveyed without Allah's permission). nor is there any bad omen (from birds), nor is there any Hamah, nor is there any bad omen in the month of Safar, and one should run away from the leper as one runs away from a lion."

Note: The majority of scholars interpret this to mean that these things in and of themselves do not transmit or cause harm through supernatural or hidden means but that Allah is ultimately in control and any fearful superstition around these is false.

Let's unpack why the above is so deceptive:

Firstly, 'Adwa means "A disease is conveyed from the sick to the healthy and thus the latter becomes sick". In other words, one thing infecting another - infection, contagion. That's the translation. There is nothing in that word about "without Allah's permission". That is commentary, not translation.

Secondly, in their footnote, Muslim scholars attempt to turn this into a warning against superstition surrounding disease transmission. However, it's actually Muhammad classifying belief in disease transmission as a superstition, and denying it.

We know this, because he tells us his thought process for denying disease transmission in many of these narrations - "If diseases are spread from one animal to another, who infected the first one?" He is attempting to logically debunk the "superstition" that one animal can infect another, instead teaching that "Allah created every soul, so he wrote its life, its provision, and its afflictions". In other words, if you're going to get a disease, it's because Allah gave it to you, not because you were near something with that disease, and it spread to you from them.

The Muslim defense of this passage is as logically inconsequential as writing, "No sword kills (without Allah's permission)". However, the people listening to Muhammad didn't have the benefit of 21st century Muslim commentators adding to what Muhammad said to clarify what he left unclear, so all they heard was "No sword kills". What impression does that leave? How does that help? Is it true? What difference does adding "with Allah's permission" make, when that can be appended to anything?

The only purpose accomplished by making a statement like this is to cause confusion, and give people a completely false impression as to the precautions which need to be taken around diseases and infections. It also appears that Muhammad contradicted himself on this teaching, which caused confusion between his companions (Sunan abu-Dawud 3911, Sahih al-Bukhari 5773-5775).

Ajwa Dates

Muhammad taught that eating seven Ajwa dates every morning makes one immune from poison or magic for the day:

Sahih al-Bukhari 5445

Narrated Sa`d:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "He who eats seven 'Ajwa dates every morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them."

This is also narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari 5768, 5769, 5779, Sahih Muslim 2047a-b, and Sunan abu-Dawud 3876.

Not only is this false, it's exceptionally ironic, because Muhammad was both bewitched and poisoned in his life, according to himself, and he eventually died as a result of the poisoning (Sahih al-Bukhari 4428, etc.).

Chanting Seven Times

Muhammad taught that chanting something seven times will cure you from your illness, unless, of course, you die:

Jami at-Tirmidhi 2083

Ibn 'Abbas narrated that the Prophet said:
"There is no Muslim worshiper who visits one who is ill - other than at the time of death - and he says seven times: As'alullah Al-'Azeem Rabbal 'Arshil 'Azeem an yashfik ('I ask Allah the Magnificent, Lord of the Magnificent Throne to cure you') except when he will be cured."

Note - there is "no" Muslim who visits one who is ill, and chants this, except he "will" be cured. That's unambiguous. Yet, it doesn't work, which is why there are hospitals in every Muslim nation that do far more than this chant.

Black Cumin

Muhammad taught that black cumin, sometimes translated "black seed", is a cure-all, except for death:

Sahih al-Bukhari 5688

Narrated Abu Huraira:
I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "There is healing in black cumin for all diseases except death."

This is also narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari 5687, Sunan ibn-Majah 3447-49, Jami at-Tirmidhi 2041, 2070

So, does black cumin help heal all types of cancer? Does it help heal all strands of Influenza, and Malaria, and Cholera? No, it doesn't, which is why there are pharmacies in every Muslim nation that sell far more than dusty bags of black seed - another testimony that Muslims know that what Muhammad said was false.

Cure for Sciatica

Muhammad said that Sciatica - which is caused by a pinched nerve that runs the length of your leg - is cured as follows:

Sunan Ibn Majah 3463

Anas bin Malik said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ‘The cure for sciatica is the fat from the tail of a Bedouin sheep (or wild sheep), which should be melted and divided into three parts, one part to be taken each day on an empty stomach.’”

Find a single (non-Muslim) doctor on earth to corroborate the above as the "cure" for sciatica. The vast majority of Sciatica is caused by a mechanical problem, and has nothing to do with diet, in which case Muhammad's prescription will do absolutely nothing.

Cure for Pleurisy & Six Other Diseases

Pleurisy is a symptom for a wide range of possible problems and infections, and involves the inflammation of the membrane surrounding the lungs.

Muhammad taught that that "Ud Al-Hindi", usually translated "Indian aloeswood", cures seven diseases. He left six unnamed, but one of them is the aforementioned Pleurisy:

Sahih al-Bukhari 5715

Narrated Um Qais:
That she took to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) one of her sons whose palate and tonsils she had pressed because he had throat trouble. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Why do you pain your children by getting the palate pressed like that? Use the Ud Al-Hindi (certain Indian incense), for it cures seven diseases, one of which is pleurisy."

This is also narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari 5713, 5718, Sahih Muslim 287d-e, 2214a-b, Sunan abu-Dawud 3877, and Sunan ibn-Majah 3462, 3468.

Conclusion

In this article, we have covered teaching after teaching of Muhammad that every modern person can verify is false, and yet in order to follow Islam, Muslims have to believe it is true. If one doesn't obey Muhammad, they do not obey Allah (Surah 4:80, Sahih al-Bukhari 2956, 2957), and if one doesn't believe all of Muhammad's teachings on every topic, they are not a Muslim, according to Muhammad himself:

Surah 4:65

65 But no, by thy Lord they can have no (real) Faith until they make thee (Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against thy decisions, but accept them with the fullest conviction.

Muslims, I know that you know better than Muhammad. He was not a prophet, and what he taught was dangerous, reckless, and completely false. He lied just as often about Jesus Christ as he did about how to be healed. He was a physician of no value (Job 13:4), and does not deserve your time, nor reverence, nor faith.
